Who We Are

AWIMSA is a women focused NGO whose objective is to serve its members, to influence and elevate the profile of women in the mining industry. We are a South African Non-Profit making organisation established to create a platform for all women labourers, entrepreneurs, professionals,and leaders within the mining industry.
We speak in one voice in terms of identifying opportunities in a co- ordinated manner and facilitate the Integration, empowerment and success of African labourers and women entrepreneurs in and around the mining sector.

Association of Women In Mining South Africa (AWISA) is affiliated to the African Women In Mining Southern Africa known as (AWIMA SADC).

Our Objectives

  • To provide support, care and healing interventions to women infected and affected by TB, HIV/AIDS and to victims of GBVF in and around mining through capacity building .
  • Promote and support the advancement of women in the mining industry.
  • Enhance the entrepreneurial development of women-owned enterprises in the mining industry.
  • Promote cooperation, fellowship and a better understanding among members of the Association.
  • Promote the creation of Joint Ventures among member’s business entities. to further advance the participation of women in the mining industry;
  • To increase women’s representation in the mining industry as to show their full contribution to South African economic growth and equitable benefit sharing
  • To be the representative of Women in the mining Sector, in the SADC Regional and international platforms for establishing relationships with other stakeholders and acting as the voice of women in the mining, mining environment and professional services related to the mining industry;
  • Increase members awareness of the legislative process and legislation as it relates to the mining industry.
